Intuit is reporting that after it implemented AI features for millions of users the feedback it got suggests that Human - AI collaboration is winning over AI automation! They call it AI-HI combination.
Since Intuit is global leader in finance software I'm always interested in what they do (and we covered they're AI roll out here), even though my primary focus is on larger accounting software systems like Netsuite. Intiut are also pioneers in field of using AI fpr finance. Earlier this month Venture Beat published a podcast they did with Marianna Tessel, Intuit's EVP and GM where she described the results of thier AI agents roll out which has shown an 85% repeat usage which is huge for new features.
“One of the things we learned that has been fascinating is really the combination of human intelligence and artificial intelligence,”
Intuit initially experimented with chatbot-style interfaces, but quickly moved beyond them. Its current platform, Intuit Intelligence, is built around specialized agents embedded directly into workflows such as accounting, payroll, tax, and sales.
These agents help categorize transactions, assist with closing the books, run payroll processes, and identify discrepancies in financial data. The results have been tangible. Customers report invoices being paid faster, a noticeable reduction in manual work, and in some cases, the identification of issues that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.
In one example, a user began questioning inconsistencies surfaced by the system and ultimately uncovered significant fraud. The AI surfaced the anomaly, but the human investigation provided the conclusion.
This reflects a broader reality in finance. AI performs best in structured environments where tasks are repeatable and outputs can be reviewed. But interpretation, judgment, and accountability still sit with humans. The most effective systems are not those that try to eliminate that layer, but those that integrate it deliberately.
Intuit is one of the best finance software companies in the world. It practically owns the Small Business space with Quickbooks good reason. They created an intuitive, easy to use, non expensive system that handles what 70% at least of small businesses need. It's hard to customize and it won't budge on many things but it's the easiest software to use if you don't need high volumes or customization.
The CFO AI take:
The insights from Intuit run counter to much of the narrative around fully autonomous systems replacing people, but they align closely with what we’ve been saying. AI performs best in tasks that leverage human time yet remain easily reviewable—drafting emails, preparing reports, surfacing anomalies. In other words, AI works well where humans can stay firmly in control.
The 85% repeat usage rate is therefore less about raw AI capability and more about trust. And in finance, trust isn’t built by removing humans from the loop—it’s built by keeping them exactly where they belong.
